Production

Point of View

Any shot can have a different feel if you shoot it from a different perspective or point of view.  You can get different effects depending on where your actors focus their attention.

Lighting

Lighting is more than just a technique.  It is a key to a good video.  Use as much light as possible but beware of backlighting.  Shooting outdoors generally gives you the best lighting just make sure the sun is behind you.

Audio

Good sound is a key to making a good video.  One problem that can occur is background noise.  Try to find a location where you can have limited outside noise.  Turn the noise off or get away from it.  Stay as close to the source to reduce the impact of the background noise.  Keep your camera microphone 4-7 feet from what you want to hear.  While you are taping you can play music, make noises, or even narrate.  Many cameras have audio dubbing so that after you have finished taping you can go back and put in a new sound track.

Animation

Begin with a scene.  Start the camera, let it run for 1 second and then put it on pause.  Move your object ever so slightly, let it run for 1 second, and so on.  Then play your animated video.

Camera Shots

Composition is an important  factor in every shot.  Vary the use of close-up, medium and wide shots.  Be sure your camera is in focus.  Try to keep the camera as steady as possible.  If you have access to a tripod that may be the best option.

Camera Movements

Your camera can take an active role in making your shots come alive.  You can zoom in, zoom out, use a chair with wheels for a moving dolly shot.
