Lesson 1

What is it?
A Concept Attainment Lesson

Activity 1: Concept Attainment

Grade/Level: 2 Subject(s): English Language Arts


Topic or Unit of Study: We are using vocabulary words to play a guessing game. The students will figure out the concept being described. Objective: Students will be  figuring out what concept is being described with hints from the adjectives and antonyms.  Summary: Under the labels of "yes" and "No", the students will figure out what concept is being described.

IMPLEMENTATION

Learning Context: In this case, we were introducing good behavior and establishing the classroom rules for the year.


 

Procedure: The teacher posts the words 'Yes' and 'No'. Under the yes she lists word that describe the concept (nice, listens). Alternately, under 'No'
she lists words that have nothing to do with the subject (spinach, sidewalk) until the students realize the concept is 'friend'.

Instructional Materials: Words on index cards: Yes No kind, listens, nice, spinach, sidewalk, etc.
